Police Shoot Man Accused Of Sparking Siege

Police have shot and killed a man accused of sparking a siege at a property south west of Brisbane, where there were women and children located inside.

Emergency crews were called to Cassowary Street in Doolandella, next door to Forest Lake, at around 5:30AM on Monday.

The man, a 41-year-old, was armed with a samurai sword.  There were two women and four children, all known to the man, inside the home.

Police negotiated with the man and the woman and children were eventually released from the home.

Around 7.45am, the man confronted officers with the sword outside the residence and an officer discharged his firearm, wounding the man.

Paramedics immediately treated the man, however, but he died at 8:15AM.

The Ethical Standards Command has commenced a critical incident investigation into the police response with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
