Why I'm struggling to get into the mood for NYE
The last day of 2019 is going to be a memorable one for all the wrong reasons for a lot of Australians battling fires near their communities.
Extreme bush fires are currently raging across 4 states of Australia, with more than 150 bushfires in NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.
Another volunteer firefighter has also lost his life overnight. 28-year-old Sam McPaul who has left behind his wife, Meghan, who is pregnant with their first child due in May, died when the 10 tonne fire truck he was in got caught in a fire tornado that flipped the truck onto it's roof.
Thousands of residents in Mallacoota, in Victoria's East Gippsland, have been told to take shelter on the lake foreshore.

It's 7.40am and this is the sky surrounding my friend's family home in Bermagui. Ash is falling on the roof and smell of smoke is getting stronger by the second. People are getting evacuated to the beach. This is terrifying. #Bushfire #bushfiresNSW pic.twitter.com/hjCF2HT0ia— Charlotte Meredith (@chmeredith) December 30, 2019
So sorry if I'm not my usual happy NYE self! :(
