Breast Cancer won't stop Alex Hall from taking part in the inaugural Port Douglas Gran Fondo

Trinity Beach pilot, Alex Hall, is currently undergoing chemo treatment for breast cancer but this won't stop the 35-year-old from getting on her bike in September.

The inaugural Port Douglas Gran Fondo Festival is on from Friday, September 9 to 11, and will see the cyclists enjoying the scenic Great Barrier Reef Drive without the traffic!

As Connect Sport Australia Managing Director, Bade Stapleton, explained to me, one of the Gran Fondo (the Italian word for 'big ride') rides - the 48km one-way from Palm Cove, is not a race, and riders are encouraged to stop and take photos along the way to Port Douglas.

For those who'd rather compete, there's a timed 136km and 100 km return ride from Port Douglas to Palm Cove.

Early bird registrations are now open at www.portdouglasgranfondo.com.au (they close Friday, June 10)

The Festival from Saturday in Port Douglas includes more social rides like the Hemingway's Brewery sprint race under lights along Wharf Street, hosted by TV show Sunrise's sports reporter, Mark Beretta, the Choo Choo's Free Family Ride plus an expo, live music and more!

Mark it on your calendar!!
