Police are cracking down on alcohol-fuelled violence in Cairns.
Operation Victor Craven has been launched, focusing on antisocial behaviour in the CBD.
Senior Sergeant Gary Hunter says it will help keep locals and visitors safe in our popular areas.
“Our approach is zero tolerance, so if you want to behave in an inappropriate manner, you will be dealt with according to law,” Snr Sgt Hunter says.
The operation will target alcohol fuelled violence, as well as behaviours like urinating in public and Being Intoxicated in a Public Place.
Senior Sergeant Hunter says from this week the will be more police presence in the Cairns CBD and along the Esplanade.
“Our hope is that we get some satisfaction from the business owners and they can see that there’s more police in the streets that are making a difference to the behaviour of those people that come into our CBD and behave inappropriately,” he says.
