A man accused of raping a woman inside her Cairns North unit will face court today.
The 53-year-old man had allegedly been invited to stay at the victim’s place on November 24, with the pair alleged to be known to each other.
Police say the woman woke up to find she was being sexually assaulted by the man and as she attempted to break free, he forcefully grabbed her jaw with both hands.
The woman managed to break free from the 53-year-old man before locking him out of her unit and contacting police.
She required medical treatment for a dislocated jaw.
Detectives arrested the man at a Manunda residence around 2pm yesterday.
He has been charged with rape and assault occasioning bodily harm.
He was refused police bail and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.
