A 44-year-old woman has suffered life threatening injuries and another woman has been charged after an alleged assault in Cairns City.
It’s alleged the women were known to each other and were involved in an altercation on Shield Street around 1.00pm yesterday.
Police say a 51-year-old Wujal Wujal woman punched the 44-year-old Portsmith woman and knocked her to the ground.

She sustained life threatening head injuries and was airlifted to Cairns Hospital.
Detectives charged the 51-year-old woman with one count of grievous bodily harm whilst adversely affected in a public place and two counts of breach of bail.
She was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.
