Large Quantities Of Cigarettes Stolen In Cairns

Large quantities of cigarettes have been stolen from the Cairns area over the past few months.

Police are working to establish links between each of the offences.

At around 1:00AM on July 30 someone forced their way into a Pease Street grocery store and stole a large quantity of cigarettes after using a heavy tool to force entry to a cigarette storage area.

Brands of cigarettes stolen include but are not limited to Rothmans, Winfield, JPS, Craftsman and Pall Mall.

In the early hours of September 30 offenders attempted forced entry to a Charlotte Street business where a power tool was used in an attempt to gain entry.

A door and metal gate were damaged in the process, no entry was gained to the business.

On Monday September 30 at around 10pm, offenders forced entry to a Faculty Close grocery store.

Once inside the offenders forced entry to a cabinet door and stole a large quantity of cigarettes.  Cigarette brands stolen included; Alpine, Bond St, Pall Mall, Roth, Winfield, Euro, Longbeach and Horizon.

Detectives estimate the combined theft of the cigarettes to be in excess of $70,000.

Investigators want to hear from anyone who has been approached by someone selling cigarettes without the proper permission.
