The Tablelands Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) moved their activation status to ‘lean forward‘ on Tuesday.

‘The LDMG is made up of the Tablelands Regional Council (TRC) Councillors and staff, and agencies including Queensland Police Service, Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Health and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (urban, rural and SES),’ said LDMG Chair TRC Mayor Joe Paronella.

‘A number of sub-groups and advisors also provide input into the LDMG including key TRC staff, Queensland Health Tropical Public Health Unit, other state government departments, Ergon Energy, Telstra, NBN and dam owners.

‘The LDMG’s key role is to develop strategies to respond to and recover from disasters and to mitigate the effects of disasters on the community.

‘The lean forward status of the LDMG for Covid-19 means we are at a heightened level of situational awareness. All LDMG agencies are now ensuring they are ready to respond as required.

‘Covid-19 is probably already in our community and it’s just a matter of time before we start recording cases.

‘We are in regular contact with all of our LDMG members and with other key stakeholders like Queensland Health and the District Disaster Coordinator.

‘The TRC website and social media will continue to provide updates, and we’ll also provide information via our Emergency Management Dashboard.'

‘Everyone has a responsibility to keep up-to-date with correct information and follow the guidelines provided by the lead agency, Queensland Health,’ he said.
