Woman, 63, critical after being beaten with stick
A 35-year-old Pormpuraaw woman has been charged following a domestic dispute that left a 63-year-old woman with serious head injuries.
Police allege the pair were at home in Pormpuraaw on Saturday night when an argument broke out at around 11pm.
The 35-year-old woman allegedly struck the older woman several times in the head with a stick, rendering the older woman unconscious.
Police were called to the Thinraathin St home where a crime scene was established.
The older woman was immediately given first aid before being taken to the clinic for further medical attention.
She was later flown to Cairns with critical injuries.
The 35-year-old woman was taken into custody and later charged with assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed and breaching a bail condition.
She was scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday.
As of Monday morning, the 63-year-old woman was recovering at the Cairns Hospital, awaiting further test results.
