Police charged a 32-year-old Cairns man with several offences early this morning following his arrest at Parramatta Park.

Uniformed police spoke with the man on Martyn Street at Parramatta Park at around 2AM and established that he was a person of interest in relation to a current investigation.

Officers advised the man that he was under arrest and a struggle took place.

He was subsequently restrained and upon being walked to the police vehicle he allegedly head-butted one of the arresting officers, striking him to the chin.

The officer experienced pain and soreness as a result of the incident.

He was transported to the police station and it is further alleged that he kicked a police officer as he was being removed from the police vehicle.

He was charged with five counts of breaching a domestic violence order, two counts of common assault, and one count of strangulation. He was also charged with one count each of serious assault, assaulting police and obstructing police.

The man is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.
