Tully police have dismantled a major cannabis-growing operation after they uncovered dozens of plants in large shipping containers.

It follows a number of successful search warrants executed last week on the Cassowary Coast.

Detectives seized seven guns, a silencer and crossbow, as well as a sophisticated hydroponic set up growing 23 cannabis plants, with an estimated street value of $86,000.

Acting Detective Inspector Kevin Goan says the silencer is of serious concern.

“In my mind, they are only used in various activities, so to take those weapons off the street is a positive move.

The discovery was a result of a tip off from a member of the public to Crime Stoppers.

“The dob-in-the-dealer campaign where they are coming forward to tell us about drug use is a very positive initiative through Crime Stoppers.”

Two men aged 72 and 47 have been charged and are both due to appear in Tully Magistrates Court on September 30.
