Assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, Mission River

A 56-year-old Napranum man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on August 2 charged with one count of grievous bodily harm whilst adversely affected.

The man was walking along John Evans Drive, Mission River at about 8pm Thursday with a 43-year-old local woman who was known to him. 

Police will allege an altercation occurred during which time the woman was struck in the head with a glass bottle.

A member of the public located the pair on the road and contacted emergency services.

The woman sustained significant facial and eye injuries in the assault and was conveyed to hospital for treatment.
