Free mulch giveaway
Cairns residents are invited to pick up a load of free mulch this weekend to help their gardens survive and thrive through the summer.
Garden mulch will be made available to residents free of charge from Cairns Regional Council’s waste transfer stations this weekend.
The annual giveaway follows the recent free green waste disposal period, provided to help residents clean up their yards before the wet season.
“The green waste delivered to our waste transfer stations has been shredded and is ready to be offered back to residents,” Mayor Bob Manning said.
Mulch will be available from the following locations from Friday 8 December until Monday 11 December or until supplies run out.
- Portsmith Transfer Station, daily 8.30am to 5.15pm
- Smithfield Transfer Station, Monday to Saturday 7am to 5.15pm, Sunday 9am to 5.15pm
- Gordonvale Transfer Station, daily 8.30am to 5.15pm
- Babinda Transfer Station, Friday, Sunday and Monday, 8.30am to 4.45pm (not open Saturday)
Donation tins will be present at each location and a small contribution to support the activities of the Tangaroa Blue Foundation is greatly appreciated.
Please note that mulch consists of shredded green waste that has not been cured and quality cannot be guaranteed, as it may contain weed species and non-organic remnants.
Mulch is for domestic use only and can be collected via utility, trailer or light truck up to 4 tonnes maximum GVM.
