Hiker airlifted to safety
A 54-year-old Woombye man was rescued from Walsh’s Pyramid last night after suffering leg cramps on his return trip down the mountain.
The man commenced the solo trek at about 4:30pm yesterday afternoon and arrived at the summit at about 6:30pm, before feeling nauseous, dehydrated and unable to move.
He made contact with emergency services using his mobile phone and was air winched to safety at around 10:45pm.
Police are encouraging all walkers to ensure they are well equipped when trekking in the far north, and to recognise their own capabilities and fitness levels, particularly with the current temperatures and humidity levels.
Police also urge people to trek with a friend and to let someone know when and where they are going, and their expected return.
