We’re excited to announce the Inaugural Arafmi Mental Health Carer Forum for Cairns this year and warmly invite you to join us.
When: 9:00am–3:30pm, Thursday 16 October 2025
Where: Trinity Rooms 1 & 2, Shangri La Hotel, Cairns
This is a free event for mental health carers during National Carers Week.
It will be a wonderful opportunity for you to relax, socialise, participate and learn, and for you to hear more about current trends in the mental health sector. Buffet lunch will be provided, as well as morning and afternoon tea. Paid parking is available on site, or nearby street parking.
There will be guest speakers including:
- Ivan Frkovic, Queensland’s Mental Health Commissioner
- Simon Katterl, CEO of Mental Health Lived Experience Peak Queensland (MHLEPQ)
There will be stallholders from local organisations and the chance to meet the Arafmi team.
In addition, the event will also feature a few fun extras, including:
- Professional photographer
- 10-minute massages
- Somatic movement class
- Guided meditation
- Lucky door prizes and more.
About Arafmi: Arafmi is the peak body for unpaid mental health carers in Queensland, advocating for systemic reforms to government and service providers. It also provides support services to family members, kin, young carers, friends and other individuals who support someone experiencing mental ill-health.
These free services and programs include a 24-hour Carer Support Line 1800 351 881 (free call from regional Qld from landline and mobile), individual and group support, workshops and respite accommodation. We have recently expanded the support we provide in Cairns through a partnership with Carer Gateway and this will ensure mental health carers can access local opportunities.
