International Day of People with Disability – Employer Pledge
On 3 December, the world comes together for International Day of People with Disability.
This year’s theme, “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress”, calls on employers to lead the way.
In Australia, the scale of the opportunity is huge. Only around 48 per cent of working-age people with disability are employed, compared with more than 80 per cent of those without. What’s more, Australia ranks around 21st out of 29 OECD countries for employment rates for people with disability, meaning we have one of the largest untapped talent pools in the developed world.
For your organisation, that means an opportunity, not just to do good, but to do well.
Inclusive workplaces attract broader talent, strengthen culture, and open doors to innovation. By committing to a simple action — like hosting a workplace talk, offering a short work-experience placement, or asking Breakthru to review your workplace access — you’re taking a practical step toward a more inclusive workforce.
