A 19-year-old man has been accused of setting fire to an educational facility at Bentley Park.
It will be alleged at around 5.00pm yesterday he broke into the early learning centre in the grounds of the premises on McLaughlin Road.
Police further allege an accelerant was used to light a fire before fleeing the scene.
Responding police and emergency services were able to extinguish the fire however the building sustained extensive damage.
The 19-year-old Mount Sheridan man was arrested by detectives around 7.30pm last night and he has been charged with one count of enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence and one count of arson.
He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today, 11 May.
