Voices of Kin
A 4 Hearts Creative Collective Fringe Festival Program Presented in collaboration with Elixir Music House.
Join us from 28 August – 6 September as we honour the world’s longest living culture through a vibrant First Nations-led celebration of music, storytelling, dance, visual arts, workshops, film, food and community.
Featuring more than 100 musicians, artists, dancers, workshop facilitators and creatives, Voices of Kin invites our community to gather, listen, learn and celebrate through creativity, culture and connection. The festival takes place across Elixir Music House and Cairns Melting Pot at 92 Abbott Street, Cairns/Gimuy, with a diverse program of free performances, exhibitions, Elder storytelling, community BBQs, interactive workshops, film screenings and creative experiences for all ages.
Artists include: Yirrmal, Gurridyula, R.3.B, Merindi Schrieber, Dizzy Doolan, Leon Namai, Performance art by Sue Kim, Ben Jansz, Bala Kaijo, Uncle Bennett and Brandon Walker, Yirgjhilya, Djun Djun Band, Black Crubians, Tausala & Felicity, Rina and band, Viv Aisi band, Rainforest Boogie, Exhibitions by Selina Furnari, Naurita Briscoe, Tamara Molly & Strait Creationz. Films from Integrated Media, 86400 Productions, End Credit Films and Desert Pea Media.
Workshops: Weave N Art, Leon Namai, apparel bleaching with NotSoGarden Zen and youth workshop.
Fundraising BBQs will be run by different organisations each day over the weekends.
This free community festival is proudly supported by the Queensland Government’s Gambling Community Benefit Fund, whose investment enables artists to be fairly supported while creating accessible cultural experiences for our community. Check socials for individual event information.
