Cairns and Far North Queensland are set for a major housing boost, with nearly 3,000 new homes unlocked through the state’s $2 billion Residential Activation Fund.

A number of local councils have been awarded the funds, with round one delivering $89 million for critical infrastructure—like water, sewerage, and roads—across 16 shovel-ready projects.

Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie says the funding will fast-track growth and tackle the housing crisis.

“This partnership with local councils will transform the housing landscape in regional Queensland and give more Queenslanders a place to call home,” Deputy Premier Bleijie said.

“The Residential Activation Fund is just one way the Crisafulli Government is creating jobs, unlocking housing and ensuring that Queensland continues to manage population growth, address housing affordability and protect the lifestyle of local communities.”

Projects will be delivered in partnership with Aurukun Shire Council, Cook Shire Council, Mareeba Shire Council, Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council, Pormpuraaw Aboriginal Shire Council, Torres Shire Council, Cassowary Coast Regional Council and Tablelands Regional Council.
