Appeals for information following assault at Holloways Beach

Police are appealing for information into an alleged assault at Holloways beach.

Officers say they were called to a disturbance around 5:30pm on Friday at Alamanda Street, where a 15-year-old boy and 47-year-old man were arrested and weapons were seized.

The 15-year-old Mooroobool boy has been charged with one count of going armed so as to cause fear.

He is due to appear in Cairns Childrens Court on May 29.

The 47-year-old Holloways Beach man has been charged with one count of going armed so as to cause fear.

He is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on June 3.

Around 9:30pm police were called to the address again, to reports a group of people armed with weapons had hit several people and a car, before leaving the scene on foot.

A 23-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man were injured and treated at the scene, while a 31-year-old man was taken to Cairns Hospital for treatment.

Investigations are continuing and police are urging anyone with information or further vision to come forward.

Detective Inspector Kevin Goan says police are continuing to work with the community to reduce crime.

“Community safety is the highest priority for QPS and police remain committed to preventing, disrupting, and investigating crime in our local community..

“We are continuing proactive, high-visibility patrols in the Holloways Beach area and continue to utilise a raft of proactive enforcement and engagement strategies to protect victims of crime from future harm.

“To ensure community safety, police urge members of the public to not engage in methods of disrupting criminal activity or reprisal.”
