A Cairns man will face court today, charged with allegedly producing child abuse material in the Philippines
Border force officers found child abuse material on the 63-year-old man’s phone, laptop and hard drives when he flew back to Cairns Airport on Christmas Day 2024. After examining the man’s phone, the AFP executed a search warrant at his Cairns home on Boxing Day.
On 6 May, 2025, following further analysis of the devices, the AFP charged the man with one count of possessing, controlling, producing, distributing or obtaining child abuse material outside Australia.
The maximum penalty for this offence is 15 years’ imprisonment.
