A Bamaga man has been hit with more than $3,000 in fines and lost his licence after police caught him speeding with a young child unrestrained in the vehicle.
Cairns Highway Patrol intercepted the 29-year-old in Laura last Friday around 4:30pm, allegedly clocking him at 142 km/h in a 100 zone.
Even more concerning, officers found a three-year-old passenger not properly secured in a child seat.
The man received a $1919 fine for speeding more than 40km/h over the limit, a $1251 fine for failing to restrain a child under four, and 12 demerit points, resulting in an immediate licence suspension
Police say the incident is a serious reminder that the Fatal Five still apply — even on remote roads.
The Queensland Police Service says proactive patrols will continue across regional roads in a bid to reduce road trauma.
