Gunman charged after police standoff in remote Far North.

A gunman has been arrested and another man flown to Cairns hospital, after he was shot on a remote Far North property.

Around 9:30 Tuesday night, police alleged a 44-year-old man arrived at a property in Silver Valley, on Shady Creek Road, where he was allegedly shot by a 68-year-old man known to him.

He was able to drive home before calling police and was airlifted from Mareeba Hospital to Cairns hospital, in a serious condition, to receive surgery on his abdomen and calf.

A police siege lasted until 11:45 am yesterday, when the 68-year-old was finally arrested. The Silver Valley man was charged with one count of grievous bodily harm. He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Mareeba Magistrates Court today, May 15.
