A new vaccine has been approved by the TGA, hoping to protect Far North residents from Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
Arexvy will be on offer for those aged between 50 and 59 – who are at increased risk- and residents living with chronic conditions, like lung disease, diabetes and heart failure, are set to benefit.
Last year just under 176,000 cases were recorded nationwide – with around 500 reported in the Cairns and Hinterland health district so far this year.
Residents are encouraged to check they’re up-to-date with their vaccinations with health experts warning it’s not just young children who can be severely impacted.
