Motorists across the Far North are being reminded to plan ahead, with night closures scheduled on two major routes in the coming weeks. The Barron River bridge will move to single‑lane operation from February 2 to 27, with works running each night between 9pm and 4am. Short, intermittent closures are also expected during the final two weeks of the program.
Kuranda Range Road will follow soon after, with night closures beginning on February 15 and continuing until late March. The range will shut from Sunday to Thursday nights between 9pm and 4am, with traffic allowed through once in each direction at midnight. Friday and Saturday nights will remain open. All works are weather permitting, and any changes will be displayed on roadside message signs.
Transport and Main Roads says the closures form part of ongoing maintenance and geotechnical repairs along the Kennedy Highway, following a successful trial of night works on the Barron River bridge last year.
Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and stay alert to changing conditions as crews continue efforts to improve safety and reduce daytime delays on these busy Far North corridors.
