A 25-year-old man from Port Douglas has been charged with rape, after allegedly meeting up with a teenage girl at a Cairns hotel room.
Cairns Child Protection Investigation Unit detectives arrested the 25-year-old on Friday after he allegedly met with the teen he had been in contact with via social media.
A family member of the girl reported the meeting to police. Officers claim when they found the pair, the 25-year-old had given her cannabis and sexually assaulted her multiple times.
The young girl is being praised for her bravery after working with police. The man was charged with multiple offences including three counts each of rape and supplying dangerous drugs and using the internet to procure a child under 16.
He appeared in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Saturday and will remain in custody until June 10.
