Motorists are being reminded to be extra careful on the roads these Easter School Holidays, as more than fifty-seven motorists have already been killed in Queensland in 2025.

Queensland police say at least 30 drivers and 11 motorcycle riders have been killed on our roads, including a 23-year-old man who died following a crash at East Trinity yesterday.

Initial police reports suggest the man was travelling west bound on Pine Creek Yarrabah Road when the Honda Civic he was in left the road hit a tree. Emergency services rushed to the scene just after 1:15pm – the 23-year-old was declared dead at the scene. The driver and two other passengers were treated for minor injuries.

A second Cairns man has also died at the scene after two 4DW collided southwest of Cairns. Police were called to the scene on Atherton Herberton Road, Wongabel, on Friday night. The 33-year-old driver from Bayview Heights died behind the wheel.

These holidays, Far North police say they’ll be targeting dangerous drivers as more people hop in the car and hit the road around Easter. Officers from the Cairns Highway Patrol Unit will also be conducting random breath testing (RBT) this morning, as part of Operation Xray Easter.
