The Crisafulli LNP government has responded to the UN’S claims that their new laws are not in line with child human rights standards, as the state parliament voted to pass the second tranche of Adult Crime Adult Time laws last night.

Twenty additional offences were passed in parliament and added to Crisafulli’s Adult Crime Adult Time Laws including arson, torture, kidnapping, trafficking in dangerous drugs, rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, ramming a police vehicle while driving and attempted murder.

Youth offenders will now face tough consequences for 33 offences under Adult Crime, Adult Time. It comes after the United Nations slammed the legislation earlier this week, claiming the new laws weren’t in line with child human rights.

Premier David Crisafulli said the Government was taking another critical step towards restoring safety in our communities.

“We promised Queenslanders that we would continue to strengthen the laws and that’s exactly what we are doing,” Premier Crisafulli said.

“The expansion of Adult Crime Adult Time puts victims’ rights ahead of the rights of offenders and restores consequences for actions.

In light of the United Nations concerns, MP Janelle Poole said the party won’t be held to account by anyone other than Queenslanders.

“The Crisafulli government will always put the rights of the victims before the rights of offenders…we’re not going to be accountable to anybody but Queenslanders.

“We have a group of hardcore, repeat offenders. For community safety they need to be held in detention…we do have a responsibility to our young people, so we need that early intervention. We are committed to that.
