The first trailer for The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, a reimagining of the iconic 1992 thriller, has just been released by 20th Century Studios and it’s as chilling as you’d expect. Directed by Michelle Garza Cervera, the film is set to premiere on Disney+ in Australia and New Zealand on October 22. But with so many remakes hitting our screens, does this one bring enough to the table?

Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Birds of Prey) and Maika Monroe (It Follows), the new take on the psychological thriller offers a modern spin while sticking to its unsettling roots. Winstead plays Caitlin Morales, an affluent suburban mom who seems to have it all… until she hires Polly Murphy (Monroe) as her nanny. As the trailer hints, Polly is far from who she pretends to be, setting the stage for a suspense-filled unraveling of Caitlin’s seemingly perfect life.

The cast also includes Raúl Castillo, Martin Starr, Riki Lindhome, Mileiah Vega, and Shannon Cochran, rounding out an impressive lineup. Written by Micah Bloomberg with a screenplay by Amanda Silver (Jurassic World), the film promises to explore themes of trust and deception in a sleek, modern setting. Behind the scenes, producers Michael Schaefer, Mike LaRocca, and Ted Field team up with executive producers Michael Napoliello and Maria Frisk to bring this reimagined vision to life.
