Sophie Kinsella, 55, Author of Shopaholic Series Dies

Beloved author of the Confessions of a Shopaholic series and other best selling novels, Sophie Kinsella, has sadly died at the age of 55. The news was announced via a statement released by Kinsella’s family posted on her Instagram account.

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing this morning of our beloved Sophie (aka Maddy, aka Mummy). She died peacefully, with her final days filled with her true loves: family and music and warmth and Christmas and joy….”

Sophie Kinsella, who occasionally published under her real name, Madeleine Wickham, revealed back in April of 2024 that she was in an ongoing battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer (glioblastoma) since 2022.

Kinsella had a long and successful career as a novelist, publishing her first piece of work back in 1995, and would consistently release almost every year until her passing. Sophie Kinsella would become known globally for her “Shopaholic” series. The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic, also known as Confessions of a Shopaholic, was the first in the series which released back in 2000 and was the first novel in which she released under the name Sophie Kinsella. The series would go on to have a total of ten books in the series with the last one releasing in 2019.
