So, who is it this time? Two-Face? Mr. Freeze? Kite-Man?

First the Joker, then the Penguin, DC Studios have announced that another classic Batman villain is set to get their own movie and they’ve just cast their lead!

But it might not be the villain you expected, and for many of you, you might not have even heard of them. The villain in question is actually the shapeshifting Clayface. The film is set to be one of the next big projects for James Gunn after Supergirl. The film is currently set for a September 2026 release date, meaning we will see more Batman villains in the DC world before the Bat himself.

The Clayface film is set to take inspiration from many body-horror films and might just be the first horror film in the newly established DC universe. The film so far is set for James Gunn, Peter Safran, Lynn Harris and even Matt Reeves to all produce. They’ve also just announced their leading man in Welsh actor, Tom Rhys Harries (The Gentlemen & Doctor Who).

For those unfamiliar, the original Clayface first appeared as a villain to the Caped Crusader in June 1940. Basil Karlo, was a moderately successful thespian for the screen and stage until a terrible accident made his body of clay. This allowed him to shape shift into anyone he could imagine, and of course turned to a life of a crime. Whilst their have been many versions of the character of the years the original is still the most well known, and it is not yet confirmed which Clayface it’ll be, money is on it being actor turned thief Basil Karlo.

What do you think? Are you excited to see a potential DC made horror movie? Seeing an under rated villain get their time to shine? Or do you just wish they’d hurry up and make a new Batman already.

You can catch Clayface when it hits theatres September 11th 2026.
