In a bid to help the more than 8,300 dogs currently listed for adoption, Bunnings has released a special line of merchandise.

Bunnings is partnering with the pet adoption platform PetRescue for their Stores for Paws campaign.

The weekend-long event, running from April 17 to 19, aims to raise money and awareness for local pet shelters with a nationwide sausage sizzle.

The limited-edition $10 pet hoodies are available in stores while stocks last and come in sizes from small to XXL.

The campaign comes at a crucial time. Data from PetRescue reveals the number of abandoned pets is at its highest in 20 years.

The hoodies and sausage sizzle will help cover essential costs like accommodation, food, and vet care for pets waiting for their forever homes.

So far, Stores for Paws has raised more than $500,000 for animal welfare organisations and helped over 700 pets find new homes.

The funds raised will help PetRescue keep their platform free for members across Australia. Local animal welfare organisations will use the money for food and medical treatments, which cost hundreds of thousands of dollars each day.
