A 40-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly stealing a vehicle from Portsmith.
Police say the owner of a silver Pajero, observed a man steal his vehicle which had keys left in the ignition.
Officers conducted investigations and located the 40-year-old Bentley Park man at about 5.30pm yesterday.
Once the man was advised he was under arrest, he took flight, and a short foot chase ensued before officers arrested the man.
He was charged with two counts of stealing and one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicenced driving and obstruct police.
In separate incidents, police further allege the man stole a shirt and sunglasses from a Lake Street business in the City on 31 May, and a second pair of sunglasses from the same business on 1 June.
He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 19 June.
