Investigations are ongoing after an 81-year-old man was assaulted while buying bananas from a stall in Port Douglas.
Officers were driving on Port Douglas Road around 10.30am last Thursday, when they saw the man lying on the side of the road.
Police say the man had pulled over at the banana stall when he was approached by an unknown male.
The two men reportedly became involved in a short verbal altercation, before the unknown male pushed the 81-year-old man, stole the bananas and fled in a grey vehicle, north on Port Douglas Road.
The 81-year-old man was transported to Mossman Hospital with significant but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam or CCTV from Port Douglas Road on the morning of September 3, to come forward.
