Stolen car crash leaves teen with critical injuries

A 17-year-old boy is fighting for life in hospital, after an allegedly stolen car slammed into a tree near Cairns.

It’s alleged the car was stolen from Kuranda around 4pm Monday, before it lost control at Edmonton at the intersection of Barney Street and Farmer Street around 5.30pm.

Police say a 14-year-old boy allegedly fled the scene on foot leaving a 13-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy in the vehicle with injuries.

Officers found the 14-year-old boy a short distance away and have taken him to the Cairns Base Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The passengers were also transported to the Cairns Base Hospital for further treatment.

The 13-year-old with non-life threatening injuries and the 17-year-old with critical injuries.

Investigations are continuing.
