North Queensland has been rocked by two tragedies within hours, with police confirming both incidents are now under investigation.
The first occurred just after 9.45am on the Bruce Highway at Toobanna, where a white Toyota Hilux and a prime mover collided near Masters Road. An 80‑year‑old woman died at the scene, and an 86‑year‑old man passed away en route to hospital. The truck driver, a 44‑year‑old South Gladstone man, was not physically injured and is assisting investigators.
Only hours later, emergency crews were called to a cane farm at Bambaroo after two men became trapped under a trailer. A 63‑year‑old man died at the scene, while a 70‑year‑old man suffered critical chest and abdominal injuries and was rushed to Townsville University Hospital.
Police are assisting Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, and a coroner’s report will be prepared.
Both investigations remain ongoing as communities in the Ingham region grapple with a devastating day of loss.
