Two men have been charged after allegedly fleeing from a stolen Mitsubishi Outlander during an early‑morning incident in Woree on July 4.
Police say the vehicle was taken from a Westcourt address belonging to someone known to the pair, before it was allegedly driven dangerously across Cairns — including high speeds, running red lights, driving on the wrong side of the road, and narrowly missing a police vehicle.
Officers from the Tactical Crime Squad deployed a tyre deflation device in Woree, where the stolen Outlander was allegedly dumped. The pair then fled on foot.
Police Dog DJ was brought in to track the offenders. One man was found on Karloo Close, while the second was located in the backyard of a Mintaro residence a short time later.
A 23‑year‑old Edmonton man has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
A 22‑year‑old White Rock man faces charges of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and unlicensed driving.
Both men were refused bail and appeared in the Cairns Magistrates Court yesterday.
